Episode 154 – A Podcast About Boxing Movie Superlatives

A film with sports as the catalyst of the story can be a good one. But it’s mostly a genre filled with cliche moments and feel good endings. One sport, however, holds up better than all others when it comes to film, and that’s boxing! So naturally it’s time for us to punch out a Boxing Movie Superlative episode! For a small list of decent boxing movies, most tend to hold up. Movies such as Rocky, of course, dominate the field when it comes to some of the best moments, opponents, and shouts of Adrian! While others tell a different story from a different point of view, one that tends to help the viewer take a walk in the protagonist’s shoes. Which fighters have the toughest of opponents? Or the dopest of cornermen? And overall, who is the best fighter, as in the character and the actor who plays them? We follow each award with our patented sucklatives, and we’re sure you’ll see what we see, even if Mickey has to cut ya!

The Super Bowl is over and it’s finally time to shift focus to the NBA season! We do this by focusing on Small Forwards, one of the most underappreciated positions in the NBA, and maybe in all of sports. As a fan of the game, we here at A Podcast About Something have some opinions on the subject, and most certainly some favorites. Versatile, lethal, and often stars of the game, it takes a lot to get appreciated at the position and there have been some who have stood head and shoulders over the rest. We nominate our favorite Small Forwards, letting you know why they’re the best and we’re right, 100% of the time! What makes KD so special? Or the likes of Lebron James? We’ll fill you in, and speaking of LBJ stick around till the end for our thoughts on one of the most explosive and diligent athletes of all time.

Episode 94 – A Podcast About The Malice At The Palace

“Oh my God he’s going into the stands!!” Some of the most famous words ever spoken during a sports brawl (or really just sports in general), leading to one of the most infamous brawls in sports history: The Malice at the Palace. At a time when the NBA was a little more hard-nosed and fights were more common, the nation was shocked on the evening of November 19th, 2004 when a certain someone threw a cup of beer at a player, and the rest, as they say, is history. This week Kalvin and Nick are back to discuss an epic moment in sports history that had reverberations that spread throughout the rest of the NBA and continue to affect the game today. We dive into the twists and turns of an infamous series of events that spanned only a few minutes, but to the players and fans, both present and at home felt like an eternity. Harsh punishments were handed out, punches were thrown, players were doused in beer, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Don’t forget to stay tuned for a bonus preview episode of the 2020 NBA All-Star contest on the heels of this episode.
